The overall goals of the Southwest Side Plan are to:
|
»
|
Build
upon the strengths of the neighborhoods within the plan area; |
|
» |
Provide a predictable regulatory process; |
|
»
|
Optimize the long-term value of public and private investments;
and |
|
»
|
Generate consensus among businesses, property owners, residents
and associations. |
The
plan assists in defining a
future vision for everyone who lives, works or visits the
Southwest Side.
Plan Boundaries
The Southwest Side is bounded by the city limits and the
Lincoln Pacific Railroad Line on the north, W. Howard Avenue
and the city limits on the south, the city limits on the west,
and South 6th Street on the east.
A public information
meeting on the plan was held
in November 2009 at Alverno College. Elected officials, plan
advisory group members, residents, business owners and Alverno
staff and students attended the meeting, which included both an
open forum for discussion and a presentation on the plan.
A design workshop
was held August 2009. Participants
came up with forward-thinking ideas for the future redevelopment of commercial corridors
on the Southwest Side. The Image Preference
Survey (IPS) is an interactive way of finding out what people
consider desirable and undesirable in the urban environment.

of the results of the Southwest IPS. A discussion of plan progress was held in April 2009 and a
community meeting was held in October 2008.
