Southeast Side Area Plan Background
The Southeast
Side is an eclectic mix of residential, industrial, commercial and
recreational uses. Significant new investment and opportunities indicate a confident
and positive commitment to the area. Large vacant and underutilized tracts of
industrial land demand remediation in order to provide new growth prospects.
These trends indicated a susceptibility to change that prompted a need to prepare
an overall vision for the area.
The purpose of the Southeast Side Plan is to evaluate the assets and
opportunities of the area in order to guide new development that builds upon its
resources. The plan does so in a context that responds to the area’s history,
natural areas, and cultural resources.

Visioning
Sessions
|
Visioning sessions
were held in November 2007 for community input on
housing, historic preservation, economic development, urban
design, open space, public art, transportation, community
facilities, and catalytic projects. The Plan Advisory Group (PAG)
met in October 2007
to review market, community, and image preference survey
(IPS) results and prepare for the November visioning sessions.

Image Preference Survey
The Image Preference Survey (IPS) is a planning technique that helps us
understand how the neighborhood would like the area to look and feel in the
future. Survey participants were asked to rate images relating to the design of
residential, industrial and commercial and public space.
The results of the
IPSurvey have been tabulated. These are some of the top-rated
images:
