Area Plans guide future neighborhood development. The Citywide Policy Plan guides citywide strategies on a broad range of issues in each of the planning areas.

· Downtown completed 1999; update underway
· Fond du Lac and North
adopted 2004
· Menomonee Valley adopted 1998
· Near North underway
· Near South underway
· Near West adopted 2004
· Northeast underway
· Northwest adopted 2008
· Southeast underway
· Southwest underway
· Third Ward adopted 2005, amended 2006
· Washington Park adopted 2006
· West underway

Area Plans include land use, design, and catalytic project  recommendations. After the Common Council adopts an Area Plan, it becomes part of the overall Comprehensive Plan for the City.  All Area Plans are scheduled to be completed by the year 2010.

While not considered Area Plans, there are other plans and studies prepared by the City which further guide development in individual neighborhoods. These planning documents include redevelopment plans and action plans.
