Humanity teaming up for Woodlands Build Week
The City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee
Habitat for Humanity will work together for Woodlands Build Week in Milwaukee’s
Woodlands neighborhood Aug. 11-15. The Woodlands, 8951 N. 95th Street, is a
condominium development on Milwaukee’s northwest side. The City of Milwaukee and
Habitat for Humanity have been engaged in activities to improve rates of
homeownership at the development for the last several years.
Activities during the week will include readying the condominium units for
extensive renovation, neighborhood beautification projects, and two open houses.
The event is focusing on affordable and safe homeownership in the neighborhood.
The open houses will be held Aug. 12th from 3-6 p.m. and Aug. 15th from 12-4
p.m. The focus of the open house events is family recruitment, as Habitat for
Humanity is currently looking for qualified families to live in the Woodlands.
After the week ends rebuilding of the condos will begin.
“The City’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity is improving the Woodlands
development while providing opportunities for affordable homeownership,” said
Mayor Tom Barrett.
The Woodlands neighborhood, formerly known as North Meadows, is a 576-unit
condominium development on the northern edge of the city. The largest condo
complex in Wisconsin, it consists of 59 buildings on 55 acres of land.
Some years ago, the City of Milwaukee took ownership of a number of troubled
units in the complex, and has worked since to improve public safety and
homeownership levels at the development. Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity has
purchased a number of these units from the City, and made them available for
renovation and resale to very low income owner-occupants. To learn more about
