Public encouraged to
give input on Southwest Side Area Plan
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and the
Department of City Development announced a workshop for the public to plan for
future development in Southwest Side neighborhoods. The workshop is part of the
Southwest Side Area Plan, one of 13 comprehensive area plans underway to cover
all 99 square miles of the City of Milwaukee.
“Area planning in Milwaukee affects everyone living in and near the
neighborhoods involved,” said Mayor Barrett. “To have a city plan where everyone
benefits, we need to hear the public’s views.”
The Southwest Side Design Workshop will be held Aug. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at St.
Luke’s Hospital Health Science Building in rooms C and D on the Lower Level,
2901 W. Kinnickinnic River Parkway.
The Southwest Side Area Plan is bounded by the city limits and the Lincoln
Pacific Railroad Line on the north, West Howard Avenue and the city limits on
the south, the city limits on the west, and South 6th Street on the east. The
area includes such landmarks as Serb Hall, Leon’s Custard, Jackson Park and
Alverno College.
