First Park
East ribbon-cutting
City’s
FlatIron project complete
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Alderman Michael
D’Amato led a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate completion of the first
building to rise in the Park East corridor on lands sold by local
government. Constructed by Legacy Real Estate Development, LLC, The
Flatiron, is a six-story building combining 38 condominiums with retail
space. This iconic building stands as an energetic gateway to the entire
Park East redevelopment corridor.

Mayor Tom Barrett, Alderman Michael D’Amato, Rod Engel and Kalan Haywood
of Vangard Development cut the ribbon to open the FlatIron. |
“This $10 million development will add vitality
to the Park East gateway as it adds to Milwaukee’s tax base,” said Mayor Tom
Barrett. “I remain bullish on the Park East. More than $800 million in
projects are underway or proposed for sites throughout this area. The
opening of the FlatIron is yet another step in transforming this underused
land into a thriving neighborhood.”

“Today is a very exciting day for the City of
Milwaukee, for those on our development team, and for all of the buyers who
have chosen to make The Flatiron their home,” says Rod Engel of Legacy Real
Estate Development, LLC. “The City of Milwaukee handled this development
brilliantly. An ad from Mayor Barrett challenged developers to have fun with
this important site. The result of a group of efforts is what you see before
you today, which is an outstanding building that acts as the gateway to the
Park East,” continued Rod. |
