The Milwaukee Development Center is the single source of contact for people and businesses needing permits to construct or remodel buildings in the city of Milwaukee. Development Center staff review building plans to ensure they comply with the Milwaukee building code, State of Wisconsin building code, and the City of Milwaukee zoning code. Staff also issue building permits, including permits to occupy the public way.

The Development Center is located at 809 N. Broadway, first floor. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Parking is available at meter rates in the Milwaukee Center parking structure; the entrance is located on Kilbourn Avenue just west of Water Street.

To reach the Development Center, email DevelopmentCenterInfo@milwaukee.gov or call (414) 286-8211. Before you call, you can learn more about the Development Center's voice messaging system

All appeals of matters relating to the zoning code are handled by the Board of Zoning Appeals.
